About Sally

Prior to her involvement with Ballyhoura Development Ltd. , Sally Daly had planned to work in Sri Lanka and had already formed a link with EMACE in 2002 while working in London.  Subsequent to returning to Ireland and while working as a community development officer for Ballyhoura on a short term contract she had made arrangements to travel to work on two specific projects for EMACE in March 2005.  Following the tsunami there was great uncertainty about the future.  That uncertainty remains for the people of SE Asia.   As an organisation EMACE requested that Sally still come to work in Sri Lanka though now the projects would be radically different.

The project focus would shift to establishing a long-term fundraising strategy, planning for local families on future sources of income and an element of the unknown i.e. whatever needs were most pressing at the time.

Sally’s background includes a BA in Anthropology, an outreach community development course and subsequently casework with the Refugee Legal Service in Dublin, project work with the Refugee Council in London, managing a Kurdish Community Organisation in North London and more recently community development work with Ballyhoura Development Ltd, including establishing a migrant information service in Charleville, Co. Cork.

As an organisation Ballyhoura are fully supportive of this project, without the backing of her employer & the direct assistance of her colleagues it would not have been possible for Sally to arrange this fundraising initiative.
